Our History
In 1935, Henrietta “Yettie” Kersting (then 72) decided to leave the bulk of her estate to the people of Liberty County, with the stipulation that it be used for establishing a hospital. One that would not refuse patients based on skin color or financial circumstances.
In 1940, Ms. Yettie was 77 when she officially retired, and construction began on the hospital. One year and $18,000 later, the hospital was completed. Ms Yettie ironically was the first patient to be treated in the facility and died 5 weeks later at age 78.
The hospital was relocated in 1951 and is the current facility we still operate in today. At Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center, Yettie Kersting’s mission and vision continue to inspire us.
We remain dedicated to serving the Liberty County community, meeting their needs, and upholding standards that would make her proud.
